Work Experience
Owner and Director of Red Hot Swing (Victoria, BC)
    August 2005 to Present
Technologies : Lindy Hop, Charleston, Balboa, Shag

I founded Victoria's first ever dance school devoted exclusively to swing dancing, as well as trained its first competitive Lindy Hop dance troupe.
QA Programmer / Analyst for Systemcorp (Montréal, QC)
    November 2002 to June 2005
Technologies : Delphi, MS Access, Visual Basic, TestComplete

I developed an automated Quality Assurance program to conduct exhaustive testing on a very large company and project management application.

Co-owner of SAF Entertainment Group (Montréal, QC)
    June 2001 to December 2005

I actively participated in the company's key operations by teaching swing dance lessons in English and in French, performing with the company's dance troupe, the Swinging Air Force, and by publicizing our events.

Since joining this swing dance troupe, I have won international competitions and performed shows for live audiences, television, and movies.  All these activities have required a strong team spirit.

Programmer / Analyst and Assistant Product Manager for DTD Technologies (Montréal, QC)
    January 2001 to December 2001
Technologies: Delphi, Visual C++, Win32 API

As a consultant to Nortel Networks, I programmed both drivers for scientific testing equipment as well as tests for optical communications cards.

After seven months, I was promoted to Assistant Product Manager at DTD, overseeing the production of an automated inspection system for fibre optic cable.

Programming Consultant (Montréal, QC and Victoria, BC)
    February 1998 to August 2000
Technologies: Delphi, Visual Basic, SQL, MS Access, JavaScript, DHTML

I independently obtained diverse programming contracts, which I completed to the clients' satisfaction.  In many cases I was simultaneously supporting a full university course load.  See the Contract Projects section below for more details.

Database Programmer / Analyst for EZEBiz Software (Victoria, BC)
    September 1996 to August 1998
Technologies: Visual Basic, SQL, MS Access

I developed the accounting and inventory modules of a business management application.  I implemented simultaneous multi-user functionality, ensured cross-platform compatibility, and became expert in database architecture as well as the rules of company management.

Computer Support at JCI Technologies (Victoria, BC)
    May 1995 to September 1996
Technologies: VBA, HTML, Photoshop, PageMaker, Director

Originally hired to do data entry, I quickly became an integral part of JCI.  I programmed macros, repaired the network, designed documents both for printing and for the Internet, maintained databases, and wrote manuals.  I learned how people actually want to use computers, the irritation caused by a badly designed interface, and what qualities define a desirable work environment.

Work Experience (continued)
Graphical Analyst at Shell Canada (Calgary, AB)
    January 1995 to May 1995 (Co-op term)
    Technologies: Unix, X-Window, PV-WAVE

The program that I developed filtered noise from a large three-dimensional seismic data set and displayed it graphically.  I analyzed the nature of the interference and researched appropriate morphological image processes.  I learned to optimize code for speed - processing a five hundred-megabyte data file gives some incentive to hurry things up.

Engineering Assistant at Kinetic Control Systems (Langley, BC)
    May 1994 to August 1994 (Co-op term)
    Technologies: Borland C/C++, Windows API

I ported a laser micro-controller program from DOS to Windows in C. I also used a custom-written computer program and strict laboratory procedures to analyze fluorescence in PCBs. I learned how to machine-tool glass, plastic, wood, and metal, and I constructed electronics equipment to various specifications.

Contract Projects
    Delta College (Montréal, QC)
    May 2000 to August 2000
Provided technical support and created an inventory database in MS Access.

    Performance Optician Software (Montréal, QC)
    October 1999 to February 2000
Used Delphi to develop a business management application tailored for opticians.  I also co-ordinated daily builds and manually maintained the code base.

    HBE Software (Montréal, QC)
    September 1999 to October 1999
Used DHTML and JavaScript to make the web browser behave like a desktop for the OpenDesk project.

    Federal Auction Service (Toronto, ON)
    April 1998 to January 1999
Used MS Access 97 to develop a full-service auction database and tracking system.

    Westside Elementary School (Victoria, BC)
    April 1998
Volunteered time and expertise to create a school library database in MS Access 2.0.

    SmartCities Pilot Project (Victoria, BC)
    February 1998 to March 1998
Developed a database in MS Access 97 to track technological projects across North America.
